At the time of my visit in April , guests were required to wear masks inside Biltmore House. These could be removed outside, in the gardens, and outdoors in Antler Hill Village. Within Biltmore House, there are markers recommending where to stand in order to stay six feet apart. This is key. One of the main ways I justified the hefty price tag to visit Biltmore is the included wine tasting. So, I enjoyed getting to do something different on this day!

Instead, I managed to snag a place in the last tasting round of the day by re-checking the reservation website on my phone. Learn from my mistake, friend. Make sure you do that as soon as you get to the estate, and give yourself plenty of time between your house entry and your tasting! You can scan the QR code on your entry pamphlet at the house and it will open the reservations webpage.

If you were able to get a complimentary wine tasting reservation before you arrived at Biltmore, comment below and let us know how you did it! This can be a whole ordeal on a visit to Asheville. When I did the research for this trip, my mom and I planned to use Hilton points to cover the cost of our hotel room. But, there are some general ideas of where you may want to stay, points or not.

Biltmore Village is as close as you can get to staying on property without staying in Antler Hill Village on the estate. In this same area are many large chain hotels as well as local bed and breakfasts. I recommend taking a stroll through downtown Asheville to peruse its local shops. Take a drive down it for stunning views of mountains that layer as far as the eye can see.

Words are my thing. There is no comparison. The flavor combinations, the texture, the menu offerings, the ambiance, all of it combined to create an unforgettable experience. All vegan, all incredible, all life-changing. Laughing Seed was another restaurant we fully enjoyed! Our last morning in Asheville, we had breakfast at Green Sage.

Free , but donations appreciated. Biltmore Estate does not have a dress code, and most of our visitors wear casual attire. We recommend dressing for the weather and wearing layers as Biltmore House is not air conditioned nor does it get overly warm in the winter. While the price of admission is steep , it’s worth it.

If you like to shop, Biltmore Estate will not disappoint. Within the gates, there are more than a dozen different stores, each offering Biltmore inspired items.

Fun things to buy include everything from fragrant spa products to Biltmore wine and gourmet items, elegant home furnishings, old-fashioned toys, plants and even strange little gargoyle replicas for your garden.

Can you tour the outdoor gardens without buying – Biltmore

Years ago, I think we used to be able to drive up, park and walk around the grounds without having to buy a ticket. Is that possible now? I read one person saying they didn’t think anyone asked for your ticket, but it isn’t clear that I could just walk around the outside without buying a ticket. Sounds like it has grown up since I went last.

Nothing is free at the Biltmore now. You need a ticket to go anywhere on the estate grounds, and they most definitely check when you drive in. You can walk around the Biltmore Village area outside of the estate. Cute historic area with shops and restaurants. I think there was a parking area before they request tickets be shown, on the approach road.

Not sure, but maybe you’re allowed to park there and walk the rest of the way in? I mean, it’s a long walk, but if you’re interested in logging miles, it’s certainly a pretty walk There are even ways to walk from Antler Village where parking is free.

Again, it’s miles, but if you’re looking for a full day of walking, it could be done. It is part of the estate and you need to buy a ticket to go there.

Also, it is considered trespassing to walk on to the estate with out a ticket I actually called and asked about this because I wanted to go for a run through there and was told its a no, and they will stop people trying to come in on foot.

I apologize for my misinformation. I thought Antler Village was accessible from the outside world. You definitely have to buy a ticket. Or have an annual pass. Or be staying as a guest at one of the lodging options on the estate. Skip to main content. Sign in to get trip updates and message other travelers. Biltmore – Free for just grounds?
